GREELEY, Colo. — A gang member who attacked a member of a rival gang with 40-ounce beer bottles and a knife was sentenced to 13 years in prison Wednesday.

David Anthony Salamanca, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree burglary-assault/menace — a class three felony — on June 20.

Salamanca was part of a group being tracked by Evans Police in May 2011 that broke into a house and began beating a rival gang member with 40-ounce beer bottles. The group also tried to stab the victim with a knife, but the victim snatched that weapon. The only serious injury the victim suffered was a hand laceration sustained when he grabbed the knife.

Six men were arrested in connection with the break in, including Carpio Nira III, 38, of Evans. Nira’s stepson was the rival gang member the group attacked.
