DENVER -- It’s sold 20 million copies worldwide ad now it seems the novel Fifty Shades of Grey is spawning more than just an interest in reading.

There are reports the racy, BDSM-themed novel is causing a mini baby boom. Babycenter.com reports moms on their message boards are revealing their pregnancies are directly related to the book.

Denver sex therapist Dr. Cameron Gridley said he’s had patients mention the book.

“I think it opens the door for people to talk about sex,” Gridley said. “I think this normalizes that people get turned on by experimenting, by trying new stuff.”

Gridley said he’s not altogether surprised the book could be responsible for a surge in pregnancies. He’s just happy it’s getting people talking about sex.

“Doing the same thing over and over really drains desire, it drains interest in sex so it’s really important to try out new things,” he said. “Take a risk. Share something with your partner that you haven’t shared before. Get a bottle of wine, sit down, and talk about your sex life.”
