South Metro firefighters quickly extinguished a grass fire just south of Chatfield State Park Thursday afternoon. The fire burned several acres of dry open space in the area of West Sunbeam Avenue and North Sunshine Drive.

An Everbridge emergency mass notification was sent out to the Sunshine Acres subdivision requesting the residents to evacuate.  At about 5 p.m., the fire was declared contained and residents were allowed back to their homes.
