COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- It's one thing to see entire homes reduced to rubble, now we are seeing the people who have to go through piles of rubble to see what they can salvage from what was once their home.
Scott Howell came back to see what is left of his corner lot in the Mountain Shadows subdivision.
His home is one of 346 that was destroyed last week in the Waldo Canyon Fire.
"There was fire on the hill when they said 'mandatory evacuations.' It was a matter of about 15 minutes and we're out," says the retired Air Force military man.
He has come back to his home, which was built in 1987, with his son and an insurance agent. Residents had a window of time Thursday to assess damage.
Howell says he vows to rebuild.AlertMe
