GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. — Efforts were made to revive a man riding a long board who fell into the Colorado River and failed to resurface, but those efforts were unsuccessful as he was pronounced dead Wednesday.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reported they received a call at 3:22 p.m. with information that a man had fallen into the river near mile marker 121 along I-70. When the Glenwood Springs Fire Protection District responded to the call, they found bystanders performing CPR.

The man was rushed to Valley View Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was not wearing any flotation devices at the time of the accident, Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario said. The man’s name has not been released.
