Telluride is known as one of the world's most famous and notorious gold rush towns.

Gold was first discovered in 1858.  That set off a mining boom in Telluride.  In its heyday, in the Tomboy Mine over 2,500 people lived and worked.  The long winding road up to the mine was made by hand.  Now you can take a jeep to the Tomboy Mine ghost town.

Telluride Outside offers all sorts of guided outdoor adventures including the  jeep tours that emphasize scenery and mining history during a fun and easy way to explore telluride.  Half day jeep tours start at $85 for adults and $75 for kids 12 and younger.  Full day jeep tours start at $145 for adults and $120 for kids.  On the tours you can check out mining ghost towns, Bridal Veil Falls, and spectacular scenery.

Just down the street from Telluride Outside, you can fuel up for your adventure with a great breakfast at The Butcher & Baker Café.  A top-notch place to stay is River Club Telluride.  It is the only full service Telluride condominium property inside the town of Telluride and is just steps away from the Gondola, shops and restaurants.  There are two and three bedroom condos available.  They are rustic, yet elegant mountain design and very spacious with condos ranging from 1,000 to nearly 1,500 square feet.
