DENVER – Two men were arrested Wednesday after police say they fired a shot at Denver Police officer during a traffic stop on southbound Interstate 25.

According to DPD spokesman Det. John White, the officer pulled over a black truck near the Speer Boulevard exit just after noon and approached the vehicle on foot.

“Our officer noticed the two individuals inside the vehicle…were having some type of altercation,” said White. “There was a shot fired in the direction in the officer.”

The passenger was arrested after jumping out of the truck and trying to flee on foot.

White says the driver exited I-25 at Speer Blvd., crashed into a curb, jumped out of the truck and tried -unsuccessfully- to carjack another vehicle. He was arrested at the scene.

White says both suspects have outstanding warrants.

The officer was not hurt.
