UPDATE, 10:53 PM: Police Chief Robert White said in a press conference at Denver Health that one person is in custody who may or may not be connected with the murder. That individual had a gun on him or her at the time of the murder. Also, Mayor Michael Hancock said police officer killed was a single mother he knew personally.

UPDATE, 9:57 PM: Female police officer died from her injuries at Denver Health Center.

UPDATE, 9:41 PM: Police officer killed was mother of two, had been on the force for seven years. Officer was killed trying to break up fight around 8 p.m.

UPDATE, 9:36 PM: Witnesses are saying police are asking those in the neighborhood near 88th and Wadsworth to stay inside due to an ongoing search for another suspect.

UPDATE, 9:30 PM: Our Deborah Takahara is reporting, citing unnamed sources, that the female police officer has died.

UPDATE, 9:22 PM: Our Jon Bowman said police have up to two people in custody. Bowman said virtually every on-duty Denver officer is on the scene, and some who were off-duty. Bowman said they are all scouring the park for a weapon — that includes the back side of the Elephant Passage exhibit at the Denver Zoo.

UPDATE, 8:52 PM: Witnesses are reporting that the officer was female, may have been attending No Gang Violence Rally. Our Justin Joseph reports that the officer is in critical condition.

DENVER — Shots have reportedly been fired in City Park Sunday night and a police officer may be wounded.

The Denver Police Department Public Information Office is still trying to confirm the details of the shooting, but a call went out for an ambulance around 8 p.m.

City Park was in the midst of hosting Jazz in the Park. There are no details if this incident stemmed from an altercation at the event.
