JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. – Investigators are looking into whether speed and alcohol contributed to a two-car crash that killed a teenager from Littleton early Friday morning.

The accident happened at about 2:30 a.m. on West Belleview Avenue near Kipling Parkway.

Investigators say the driver of a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta, Aaron Thane, 18, was driving north on South Kline Street when it collided with a Ford F-150 pickup truck which was traveling east on Belleview.

Thane, whose vehicle ended up crashing into a tree, was declared dead at the scene.

His passengers, Robert Thane, 19, and Branden Hanson, 22 of Lakewood, were transported to Swedish Hospital with unspecified injuries.

The driver of a Ford pickup, Kenneth Farrell, 35 of Littleton, was treated and released from St. Anthony.

“The crash is still currently under investigation as to the causal factors and series of events,” said Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis. “Speed and alcohol are being investigated as possible contributing factors.
