NORTHGLENN, Colo. — The man charged with trying to kill his two young children by setting fire to their home has died.

William Johnson has been hospitalized since the incident on February 23. He died Wednesday, April 25 from injuries he received in the fire at a duplex in the 11000 block of York St. in Northglenn.

Both of Johnson’s children, one a toddler, were unconscious when firefighters found them on the second floor of the home. Paramedics rushed them to area hospitals. They survived the fire.

Just after 2 a.m. on February 23, police responded to a home in the 3600 block of South Dallas St. where a woman claimed her ex-husband was driving through the grass. Police located the suspect, William Johnson, and his children but could not determine a cause to detain him.

Hours later officers responded to the duplex fire on York St. where the children’s mother was found outside, covered in blood, saying Johnson was inside the home hurting the children.
