ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Wearing a blue Denver Broncos hat and a grey Broncos t-shirt, quarterback Peyton Manning joined his new teammates for the first official offseason workout Monday.
“It was a good workout,” Manning told reporters at Dove Valley. “Great turnout attendance-wise. (It was) good to see all of the new guys who I hadn’t had a chance to meet yet.”
The 11-time Pro Bowler had been practicing with wide receivers away from Broncos headquarters since he was acquired by Denver last month.
Monday was the first day players were allowed to participate in formal on-site conditioning.
“I thought it was a productive first day,” he said. “Just trying to build the foundation for what we hope our team will be like this year.”
Barring unforeseen circumstances, the four-time National Football League MVP will play his first preseason game as a Bronco in Chicago sometime between August 9th and the 13th.
The full preseason schedule has not yet been released.
Wide receiver Eric Decker, who should be one of Manning’s top targets, said the future Hall of Famer is showing no lingering effects from the neck surgery that forced him to miss the entire 2011 season.
“Catching balls from him, it feels like there’s nothing wrong to me…I see no issues at this point,” said Decker.
