Fire investigated at Northglenn Duplex. Feb. 24, 2012

NORTHGLENN, Colo. — A father accused of setting fire to a house with his two young children inside was charged with attempted murder Friday.

William Johnson is still in the hospital after he, too, was injured in the fire last month.

Just after 2 a.m. on February 23, police responded to a home in the 3600 block of South Dallas St. where a woman claimed her ex-husband was driving through the grass. Police located the suspect, William Johnson, and his children but could not determine a cause to detain him.

Hours later officers responded to a duplex fire in the 11000 block of York St. where the children’s mother was found outside, covered in blood, saying Johnson was inside the home hurting the children.

Firefighters were able to rescue three people on the second story of the duplex.

Both children, one a toddler, were unconscious when paramedics transported them to area hospitals, a neighbor told FOX31 Denver.
