DENVER – Even if the Denver Broncos don’t sign free agent quarterback Peyton Manning, they still need to replace Tim Tebow, says former Broncos offensive lineman and ESPN analyst Mark Schlereth.

“To see the Broncos go after Peyton Manning…to see him come to town…to see him and John Elway walking into (Dove Valley) together…it made me feel great,” Schlereth told FOX31’s Ron Zappolo on Thursday. “It makes me excited to think that we have an opportunity to have one of the greatest that’s ever played, play quarterback here.”

Schlereth, who has three Super Bowl rings, two with Denver and one with Washington, didn’t pull any punches when asked for his opinion of Tebow.

“It’s time to get a real quarterback,” he said. “I think John Elway and John Fox aspire to be world champions, and I don’t believe you can do that with this type of quarterback playing (here).”

“You can’t have a guy that completes 47-percent of his passes take you to the Promised Land.”
