COLORADO SPRINGS – Police in Colorado Springs say a 50-year-old man left his elderly mother on the floor of her home for at least five days with serious injuries before calling for help.

Dennis Foust faces charges of “Crimes Against At-Risk Adults,” according to a police statement.

On Jan. 24, paramedics were called to a home in the 1900 block of Kodiak Dr. to transport the 86-year-old woman to Memorial Hospital.

“The victim reported that she had been left on the floor in her home for at least five days, unable to move herself or care for herself,” police said. “She was found by paramedics in sheets soaked in urine and covered in feces. The victim’s 50 year son was present in the residence during the time the victim was lying on the floor and did not provide aid or assistance.”

Hospital staff determined the woman’s injuries met the definition of “serious bodily injury” and amounted to a significant risk of death.

“It was through a lengthy investigation that it was determined the injuries were the result of the negligent care provided by the victim’s son and his failure to call for medical assistance in a timely manner when his mother fell and was unable to move or to aid herself,” said police.

Foust was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center and later released on bond.
