SHERIDAN, Colo. — Police in Weld County found a 9-month-old girl Monday morning and the man who they say kidnapped her was arrested.

An Evans Police officer spotted the suspect vehicle at about 4:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 85. The girl, Naveah Lopez, is safe.

The Amber Alert issued for the little girl which was issued when she was kidnapped from Sheridan was cancelled.

“An officer with the Evans Police Department spotted the stolen vehicle listed on the Amber Alert in the City of Evans and conducted a traffic stop,” says Sheridan Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Wszolek.

“Peter Madrid was taken into custody and Naveah Lopez was found unharmed inside the vehicle. Naveah Lopez will be taken to a local hospital to be checked out and Peter Madrid will be held on several felony charges,” Wszolek says.

At 7:30 p.m. Sunday police say the mother of Naveah Lopez went into a relative’s house in the 3800 block of South Grove Street in Sheridan and left Madrid alone in the car with the child.

When the mother returned the car was gone.

The baby’s aunt says Madrid is a cousin in the family, but she says they don’t really know him and he was just recently released from jail.
