“Due to suspicious circumstances of the injuries, Commerce City Police Department immediately began to investigate,” said Det. Mike Saunders.

Police did not elaborate on the type of injuries the child sustained.

Gabriel Trujillo's family told FOX31 News that they have hired a lawyer to look into what more could have been done by authorities.

Doris Beck Trujillo is being held at the Adams County Detention Center.

Police planned to meet with the Adams County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday to present formal charges.

A memorial fund has been set up at Well Fargo in Commerce City.  Donation can be made to the Gabriel Trujillo fund.
