3 geese killed in disturbing animal cruelty case; juveniles sought
LONGMONT, Colo. — Police in Longmont are looking for four juveniles accused of deliberately running down four geese, killing 3 of them.
The incident was witnessed by two teenagers on Sunday afternoon near the intersection of 12th Ave. and Sumner, across from Loomiller Park.
According to Longmont Police, the teens saw a white colored Ford Explorer or Excursion stop at the intersection, at which point one of the juveniles jumped out of the SUV and ran toward a flock of geese in a front yard.
“The male who had exited the vehicle then chased the geese into the street on 12th Ave.” said Longmont Police spokesman Jeff Satur. “At that time, the white Ford SUV accelerated straight toward the geese, striking them.”
The SUV then sped away with all four juveniles inside.
Three of the geese died at the scene. One of the witnesses picked up the surviving goose, which was injured, and flagged down an officer.
“(One witness) said he is a student at Longmont High School and said he was pretty sure he recognized the vehicle belonging to a student at LHS,” said Satur.
The injured goose was taken to Greenwood Wildlife Rehab Center.
