AURORA — The driver of a pickup truck was killed when the vehicle flipped over in a hit-and-crash in northeast Aurora.

It happened during the Tuesday afternoon commute at E. 35th Ave. and Tower Rd.

Police say a Dodge Intrepid was going south on Tower Rd. when the driver ran the red light at 35th Ave. and hit a Ford F-150 pickup truck that was going east on 35th.

The impact caused the pickup to rollover and its driver was partially ejected. That person died at the scene. Two teenage passengers in the pickup went to the hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries.

The Intrepid also hit two other vehicles in the crash.

“The female driver of the Intrepid ran from the scene of the accident, but was apprehended shortly after in the area of I-70 and N. Tower Rd,” says Aurora Police spokesman Sgt. Craig Baumfalk. “There was evidence the driver of the Intrepid had used drugs.”

She faces charges of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal crash according to Baumfalk.
