Near Record Heat Today, Turning Windy: I’m forecasting a high of 81 degrees in Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins – the record is 83 set in 1950. Lots of sunshine. Wind speeds increase this afternoon as a strong cold front moves into NW Colorado. That cold front doesn’t arrive in Denver until early Saturday morning.
Mountains: Winds turn gusty this afternoon 25-70mph. A strong cold front moves through this evening. As it does rain/snow moves in and turns over to all snow overnight into Saturday morning. 1-5 inches of total snow accumulation by midday Saturday. Turning sunny on Saturday after the cold front. Winds remain gusty all day 25-75mph. Highs today in the 40s and 50s, but only in the 30s on Saturday.
Mild Days Return: By Sunday the wind will be gone as plenty of sunshine returns again (BUT, still very windy above treeline on the Divide 30-80mph including the Indian Peaks, RMNP). Temperatures will jump back to about 70 degrees in Denver. The week ahead will be tranquil again with lots of sunshine and dry conditions. Temperatures will swing each day from warm 70s to cooler 60s. So, get ready for a roller coaster ride of afternoon highs.
Next Snow: There is one computer forecast model that is giving indications of snow possible in Denver by Thursday. Right now it is the only one. But, we will watch other models for that possibility. So, things could be changing late next week…stay tuned.
