Josh Bernstein

Investigative Reporter

Senior Investigative Reporter Josh Bernstein is an eight-time Emmy award winning reporter. His investigations have resulted in over a dozen public officials being removed from office, with nearly half of them being sent to federal prison.

He’s an accountability journalist who strongly believes in the public’s right to know.
Josh has extensive television and digital experience. Prior to joining KDVR Fox 31 Josh headed up the investigative unit at “The Daily,” an interactive news magazine for tablet devices and smartphones.

At “The Daily,” Josh broke a number of high-profile stories. His investigation “Orders to Kill” dominated international headlines when Josh obtained an exclusive copy of a Joint Intelligence Bulletin exposing an elaborate plot by al Qaeda to attack the United States on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11.

His investigation “Crude Treatment” exposed efforts by BP to intentionally slow down payments to victims of the Gulf oil spill and prompted the Department of Justice to audit the oil giant’s process for paying claims. When a federal judge ordered “The Daily” to take down a very incriminating and embarrassing videotaped deposition by BP CEO Tony Hayward they refused. Josh and “The Daily’s” legal team challenged the judge’s order in court and won.

Before "The Daily," Josh worked in Phoenix, Arizona where his reporting focused on government waste, fraud and corruption. His undercover investigation of a taxpayer funded junket by AIG executives resulted in congressional hearings and ultimately the resignation of AIG’s CEO. He was honored with eight Emmy awards, including "Best Investigative Report" three years in a row.

Josh is an active member of Investigative Reporters & Editors, Inc. a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of investigative reporting. He’s a proud member of the organization’s mentoring program and is routinely invited to speak at IRE’s annual conference.
