Deborah Takahara

Anchor

Deborah Takahara anchors FOX31 Denver news at 5 and 9 p.m. on weekdays.

Deborah has been named “Best News Anchor” by the Colorado Broadcasters Association for two years in a row. She is an award winning journalist who has traveled the country chasing big news stories.

As a reporter for KTVT-TV ( CBS) in Dallas, she saw firsthand the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. She traveled to Mexico to cover the violence at the border. She was awarded a regional Emmy for Continuing Coverage of a Vietnam Airman's return home, 37 years after he was killed in action.

After graduating from the University of California at Irvine, Deborah began her broadcasting career in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she worked for KHBS-TV (ABC). A short six months later, KATV-TV (ABC) in Little Rock hired her as a general assignment reporter. She worked her way up to weekend morning anchor and then weekday morning anchor. Her next jump took her back to her Southern California roots, where she was an anchor and reporter for KNSD-TV (NBC) in San Diego. Deborah also worked for NBC News where she covered major news events on the West Coast.

Deborah loves to travel and explore new areas. She also loves the outdoors and is looking forward to gardening, skiing and running. She has completed four marathons, including the 2011 Boston Marathon.

Who or what has been your most memorable interview or story?

Covering Hurricane Katrina was the toughest assignment I've ever had. It was also the most rewarding. I saw destruction that was unimaginable. Entire neighborhoods no longer exist, streets and landmarks were gone, and there were stairs leading up to foundations but no houses. But in the middle of it all, we found hope. Like the mailman who continued his route, even though mail boxes were missing, addresses were gone and sometimes there was no house at all. The entire experience made me appreciate life and the little things. It also gave me a new respect for Mother Nature!

If you could interview anyone dead or alive who would it be?

I would love the chance to sit down and spend some time with Princess Diana. After all these years, people are still fascinated by her story.

What is the best thing about being a journalist?

The best part of being a journalist is doing something different every day. That's what got me interested in the news business. I couldn't imagine having to sit in an office every day. As a reporter, I get to talk to people from all walks of life and witness events from fires and floods to court hearings and politics.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I love to tell the story about carrying my young son, walking the dog, and carrying the tricycle all at the same time. But I'm sure moms all over think that's just part of motherhood.
