CU defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt leaving for Oregon

BOULDER, Colo. — University of Colorado defensive coordinator is leaving for Pac-12 Conference rival Oregon, Fox Sports reported Wednesday.

Leavitt accepted a four-year deal to be the defensive coordinator for the Ducks and will make him the highest-paid coordinator in Pac-12 history.

Oregon hired Willie Taggart as its new coach last week.

Under Leavitt the past two seasons, the Buffaloes defense was revamped and was instrumental in CU going 10-3 this season and finishing No. 10 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

It was CU’s first winning season since 2005 and the first time the Buffaloes were the Pac-12 South Division champions since joining the conference.

CU ranked No. 8 nationally in the fewest yards per play. Before Leavitt arrived, CU ranked No. 120.

Leavitt and Taggart previously worked together with Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh while with the San Francisco 49ers.

Leavitt previously coached the University of South Florida and was the linebackers coach for the 49ers.
