HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. -- A memorial service was held Tuesday for the mother and two young boys found dead in their minivan a week ago.

Jennifer Laber and her sons, 5-year-old Ethan and 3-year-old Adam, each suffered single gunshot wounds. The Douglas County Coroner's Office said Jennifer Laber’s wound was self-inflicted.

Tuesday, her husband and the boys' father, Ryan Laber, spoke to a crowded church of mourners.

He spoke of the joy the boys brought to their lives, but he also described the struggle with Jennifer’s lifelong battle with depression and the sorrow he will hold forever over the loss of his family.

“In the last words she had written, Jen expressed her love. She wanted nothing but for Ethan and Adam to have a mother they could depend upon. A mother who felt well, a mother without anxiety or fear or reminders of a torn emotional state. In her mind, they deserved the utopia each of them had brought to our lives,” Ryan Laber said.

On Saturday, another memorial service for Jennifer, Ethan and Adam will be held in the family’s home state of Minnesota.

The Lone Tree Police Department and the coroner's office are still investigating the deaths. Toxicology results are pending.
