LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the death of his 3-month-old daughter nine months ago, the Lakewood Police Department said Friday.

Josiah Lamarr Jones is in custody over the death of Naomi Jones, police said.

Just after 5 p.m. on March 3, police and paramedics responded to a 911 call of a child who was having difficult breathing inside a home in the 5300 block of West 16th Avenue.

The girl was found unresponsive by police and paramedics from West Metro Fire Rescue. She was taken to a hospital to be treated for several serious injuries that police said "were unexplained or inconsistent with the account that (Jones) provided."

Naomi later died from her injuries three days later. Jones was the only other person inside the home at the time of the call.

After a nine-month investigation, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has determined the girl's death to be a homicide.

Jones was arrested Thursday in Aurora, and is being held on suspicion of child abuse resulting in death, child abuse resulting in serious injury and violation of a protection order.

Lakewood police were helped by the Wheat Ridge Police Department, the Aurora Police Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force in the investigation.
