Woman dies after hostage situation in El Paso County Wednesday

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — A woman has died after after being shot during a hostage situation in El Paso County early Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to the home in the 5100 block of Harrington Drive at about 12:45 a.m.

Gregory Lorbiecki held his wife hostage for several hours, according to a statement released by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 5:15 a.m., gunshots were heard from inside the home.

The SWAT team went in and found Lorbiecki’s wife had been shot. At that point, Lorbiecki surrendered.

Lorbiecki has been booked into the Criminal Justice Center on several charges, including first degree murder, kidnapping, false imprisonment and assault.

KRDO reported that authorities said they have visited the home several times for domestic violence in the past.
