DENVER — Hundreds of civilians and members of the law enforcement community came together Sunday in Washington Park for the annual Officers Down 5K.

“The Officers Down 5K is an annual event representing and celebrating officers who serve us daily and those who have fallen protecting our communities,” organizers said in a statement.

The event is in partnership with the Colorado State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police and their Foundation.

T.J. Burke started his law enforcement career in 2009 and founded the Officers Down 5K in 2011, according to organizers.

Burke wanted to hold the event on a regular day — not the anniversary of a tragedy — to bring the community together to “honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to support those brothers and sisters in blue who serve daily to keep our families safe.”
