Fort Collins police find dead man in abandoned building

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Police responded to reports of an assault early morning Saturday and instead found a dead man in an abandoned building, Fort Collins Police Services said.

It happened about 12:45 a.m. in the 200 block of West Harmony Road.

Officials said several people appeared to be using the abandoned building as a shelter and detectives are interviewing those parties to determine their involvement.

Police also are taking a look at what led to the death.

Officials have not released the name of the dead man or the official cause and manner of death. That information will be released by the Larimer County Coroner at a later time.

Police do not believe there is any ongoing public safety threat to the community. No further details were released.
