One killed, 4 injured in 2-alarm house fire in Aurora

AURORA, Colo. -- One person was killed and four people were injured after three homes caught fire in a two-alarm blaze on Wednesday morning, Aurora Fire Rescue said.

The fire broke out just before 7:30 a.m. in the 12700 block of East Seventh Avenue, near Hoffman and Del Mar Elmwood parks.

The fire originated at one house and spread to two others, officials said. Several vehicles also were damaged.

Four people were taken to hospitals with unknown injuries. A 58-year-old woman was later pronounced dead. One other person was treated at the scene.

A witness said EMTs were doing chest compressions on a man before he was taken to a hospital in an ambulance.

"It was a horrible scene," the witness said.

Officials said 38 firefighters and four ambulances were dispatched to the scene and crews were able to get the fire under control.

"This was a pretty serious fire with three houses on fire," a fire spokesman said.

The extent of the damage to the three homes and the cause of the fire are under investigation.
