Teen tells Weld County deputies he accidentally shot his friend

WELD COUNTY, Colo. — A shooting in Weld County early Saturday morning killed one man, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies took a teenager into custody.

It happened about 1:30 a.m. in the 18000 block of Weld County Road 43 in LaSalle.

“The reporting party informed dispatchers that he accidentally shot his friend while manipulating a weapon inside the residence,” the sheriff’s office said.

The victim is a 23-year-old man who died at the scene. Officials are working on notifying his family so his name hasn’t been released yet.

The suspect is a 17-year-old who frequently stayed at the home. He has been charged with criminally negligent homicide.
