Free meals, discounts to thank vets, military members on Veterans Day

DENVER — The armistice to end World War I went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 and later became Veterans Day in the U.S.

Veterans Day is Friday, and restaurants, stores and other establishments will thank veterans and military members with special discounts, free meals or free admission.

Most businesses are making the offers to veterans and military service members who show proof of service or are in uniform. The offers are only at participating locations.

Restaurants

Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Black Hawk: Free lunch or dinner at the Centennial Buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.

Applebee’s: Veterans and active duty military get a free meal.

Bar Louie: Veterans and active-duty military will get a free appetizer or entree on Veterans Day.

Baskin-Robbins: For every ice cream scoop sold on Veterans Day, the brand will make an 11-cent donation to the USO.

Bonefish Grill: All active and retired service members with a valid military ID will receive a complimentary bang bang shrimp at all locations on Friday.

Boston Market: Free brownie or cookie with any purchase on Friday.

Buffalo Wild WingsA complimentary order of wings and a side of fries will be available to veterans and active-duty military.

California Pizza Kitchen:  Free entree from the Veterans Day menu.

Chik-fil-A: All military veterans will receive a free chicken sandwich on Friday.

Chili’sFree meal from a special menu all day Friday.

Chipotle:  From 3 p.m. to close, a burrito, bowl, salad or tacos and get one free.

Cracker Barrel:  Complimentary slice of its Double Chocolate Fudge Coca-Cola Cake.

Denny’s: Active, inactive and retired military personnel will get a free Build Your Own Grand Slam from 5 a.m. to noon.

Golden CorralMonday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. is Military Appreciation Night with a free thank you dinner.

Hooters: Free meal from the Hooters Veterans Day menu at any Hooters location nationwide.

IHOP: Red, White & Blue pancakes are free from  7 a.m. to7 p.m.

Krispy Kreme: Free doughnut and a small coffee to anyone who identifies themselves as a veteran or active duty military personnel.

LaMar’s: Free doughnut and a 12-ounce coffee on Friday.

Little Caesars: Free hot-n-ready lunch combination all day Friday. It includes four slices of Detroit-style deep dish pizza with pepperoni and one 20-ounce soda.

Longhorn Steakhouse: Free appetizer or dessert (no purchase required, no restrictions), plus 10 percent off for guests who dine with veterans on Friday.

Mimi’s Cafe Free entree from a Veterans Day menu with the purchase of any nonalcoholic beverage. On Saturday and Sunday, veterans and active duty military will also receive their choice of breakfast, lunch or dinner entrees on the Veterans Day menu for $5.99 with the purchase of any nonalcoholic beverage.

Olive Garden: Free entree from a special menu to active-duty military and military veterans.

On The Border: Free create your own combo with a choose 2 or choose 3 selection. Dine-in only

Outback Steakhouse Free Bloomin’ Onion and a beverage on Friday. All Military Mates, including active or retired military members and their families, receive 15 percent off from Saturday to Dec. 31.

Panera Bread:  Complimentary You-Pick-Two at participating areas.

Pilot/Flying J: Donating a portion of its proceeds, up to $25,000, from the sale of 20- and 24-ounce PhilMor travel coffee refills on Friday to Wreaths Across America. Funds raised will go toward the sponsoring of a special section of the Arlington National Cemetery on National Wreaths Across America Day on Dec. 17.

Red Lobster:  Free appetizer or dessert on Thursday and Friday.

Red Robin:  Free Red’s Tavern Double Burger and bottomless steak fries. No purchase is necessary.

Texas Roadhouse: Free meal on Friday.

Retailers/services

Colorado Parks and Wildlife: Free admission to any state park on Friday.

Denver Dumb Friends League: Adoption fees for all pets on Friday.

Great Clips: A free haircut card will be given to all customers on Friday to give to a veteran. Veterans can also get a free haircut or get the free haircut card. Haircuts are redeemable until Dec. 31.

Home Depot: Veterans receive a 10 percent discount on purchases.

JCPenney: Five percent discount until Sunday to former military personnel and their immediate family members. The discount can be combined with additional coupons and special offers, including a $10 off $25 coupon with any form of payment or 20 percent off coupon when paying with a JCPenney credit card.

Lowe’s: Ten percent off purchases on Friday.

Meineke: Free basic oil change with proof of service.

National Park Service: Free entrance on Friday. A free lifetime pass is also available to disabled veterans.

Red Roof Inns: Veterans can save 15 percent at any Red Roof Inn nationwide throughout the month of November. Red Roof also offers active military members 10 percent off a stay at any Red Roof nationwide all year.

Sport Clips: At participating locations, veterans and current service members can receive a free haircut.

Walgreens: Customers with Walgreens Balance Rewards cards and valid military ID can take 20 percent off all eligible purchases.
