GOLDEN, Colo. — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a couple that might have witnessed an attack against an 82-year-old inside the Jefferson County administration building earlier this month.

On Oct. 3 about 3 p.m., an 82-year-old man and his wife who had stopped at the DMV stopped to use the restroom on the administration side of the courthouse, the sheriff’s office said.

As he was coming out, he opened the door and a man punch him in the face or slammed the door hard that it hit the man in the face, the sheriff’s office said.

The man fell backward, suffering a broken nose and broken glasses, the sheriff’s office said.

Surveillance video showed a couple was nearby when the incident happened. Cameras also showed the couple went to the nearby light rail station.

The man is expected to recover.

If the suspect is found, they will be charged with second-degree assault of an at-risk adult, the sheriff’s office said.

Anyone who might have witness the attack or knows the couple is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 303-271-5491.
