DENVER -- Two people had to be transported to a hospital after a multicar accident at 38th Street and East Brighton Boulevard on Thursday night, the Denver Police Department said.
The intersection was closed as police investigated.
Police said a driver traveling southbound on Brighton Boulevard ran the red light at 38th Avenue causing a "chain-reaction accident."
Three other vehicles and a bicyclist were also hit. One other driver and the bicyclist were transported to a hospital, police said.
The driver suffered serious injuries, while the bicyclist's injuries were not serious, police said.
Police said the suspect attempted to flee the scene of the accident, but witnesses detained the man.
Police said alcohol is possibly a factor in the crash.
