Distracted driver hits Colorado State Patrol trooper’s vehicle

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — You never want to get into an accident because you were distracted behind the wheel. But you really don’t want to get into an accident with a Colorado State Patrol trooper because you were distracted behind the wheel.

But one driver did just that over the weekend. The Colorado State Patrol in Castle Rock said a driver hit a trooper’s car on C-470.

The patrol car was parked on the shoulder, with its emergency lights on, while the trooper was helping a driver who had run out of fuel, the CSP said.

The trooper was not injured.

“The CSP loses another patrol car to distracted driving,” officials wrote on Twitter.

The driver was cited for careless driving, according to the CSP. The four-point violation means the driver might face fines if found guilty.
