DENVER – The Avalanche opened their season with a 6-5 win against the Dallas Stars at the Pepsi Center on Saturday night.
The Stars got on the board early with a Tyler Seguin goal, and the Stars’ Devin Shore would later get a goal to put the Stars up 2-0 early.
But the Avalanche quickly came back with a pair of goals from Joe Colborne, in his Avalanche debut, to tie it up at the end of the first period.
The Avalanche showed they weren’t messing around as they opened the second period with a goal from Carl Soderberg to give the Avalanche their first lead of the season.
And the Avalanche didn’t stop there, they quickly started dominating the game with a goal from Nathan MacKinnon and a third goal from Colborne giving the Avs a 5-2 lead.
The Stars came back though with a goal from Jamie Benn and the second goal of the night for Seguin to make it 5-4 at the end of the second period.
The competitive game continued into the third period as Tyson Barrie put the Avs up 6-4. The extended lead wouldn’t last long though as the Stars’ Brett Ritchie cut it back to a 1-goal lead, 6-5.
But, in the end it was enough, the Avalanche would come away with a win, 6-5, to open the season.
