PENROSE, Colo. -- Deputies burned about 700 pounds of illegal marijuana that was seized at an illegal grow site, the Fremont County Sheriff's Office said.

The Canon City Daily Record reports no criminal charges will be filed because the caretaker of the marijuana grow has died.

“The whole situation with this was just an odd one,” Fremont County Sheriff Fred Beicker told the newspaper.

The sheriff said the office had been protecting the grow for awhile because the caretaker's family inherited it.

"The grow was left unsecure for quite sometime, so we've been working with the family to try and gain control of the plants," Beicker told the newspaper.

The sheriff's office posted video to its Facebook page showing the burning in a bonfire-like fashion.
