Melania Trump’s blouse choice had double meaning for some debate viewers

ST. LOUIS — A number of media outlets questioned Melania Trump’s motivation for wearing a blouse with what is known as a “pussy bow” to the second presidential debate.

She wore the fuchsia Gucci blouse as her husband, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, faced off with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

One of the first topics they addressed was a conversation recorded in 2005 in which he joked about groping women.

Some questioned whether Melania Trump had an ulterior motive.

Despite captioning the article “Beast Mode Trolling …” on Facebook, Breitbart News Agency quoted the Trump campaign as saying Trump’s wardrobe choice was not an intentional statement.

The Gucci silk crepe de chine shirt sells for $1,100 at Net-a-Porter.com.

“Pussy-bow shirts are one of Gucci’s signature silhouettes,” the website said. “We think it’s a chic way to elevate office or weekend looks.”

“The bows date back to at least the 1930s, when the floppy, feminine bow most likely received its name from the bows tied under kittens’ chins. In the 1970s, it became part of the working woman’s wardrobe, a take on the bow ties that male counterparts were wearing to the office,” USA Today explained, calling it one of last spring’s biggest trends.
