DENVER -- A fuel spill closed multiple lanes on northbound Interstate 25 approaching Alameda Avenue, causing heavy backups, on Tuesday morning.

Police, hazardous materials crews and firefighters responded to the scene.

Additionally, dump trucks helped to absorb and mop up the fuel.

Three lanes were shut down along the median.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is advised drivers to exit before Alameda to avoid hitting the heaviest traffic caused by the spill.
