Man shot and killed this week on CU campus was discharged from Marines

DENVER — The man police shot and killed on the University of Colorado – Boulder campus earlier this week was in the U.S. Marine Corps at one time.

We spoke with the duty officer at the Marine Corps communication office Friday night and she confirmed Brandon Simmons was discharged in May 2015 as a lance corporal.

Police said Simmons threatened people with a machete before he was shot.

CU and Boulder police released the names Friday of the officers involved in the shooting. Campus officer Clay Austin and Boulder officer Jason Connor are now both on paid administrative leave whit the shooting is under investigation.
