Act quickly but have patience. Southwest’s big sales have overwhelmed the airline’s website and reservations centers in the past.
To find the best prices, experts recommend using the flexible date calendar.
“Travelers can combine sale fares and other fares for a round-trip ticket. You might even find cheaper fares than the sale fares by using the calendar. I found one-way fares as low as $54 to Chicago in December, for example,” Dawn Gilbertson advised.
Gilbertson also recommended checking fares on other airlines “as they tend to match Southwest’s sale fares on competing routes.”
However, keep in mind the baggage fees. Southwest will accept the first two checked bags for free, as long as they’re not oversized.
