“Birth of a Nation” is a powerful and true story about a chapter of American History that most of us don’t know. Nat Turner was an enslaved Baptist preacher that went on to lead one of the first and largest slave rebellions in America. This rebellion was in 1831, long before the Civil War. It’s a story that is both inspiring and heartbreaking. The film’s star and director, Nate Parker, says there are lessons for all of us in this film, even today.
