DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. -- Some second graders at Prairie Crossing Elementary School in Parker held a bake sale Thursday for a special reason.

It raised money for Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Dan Brite. He was critically injured in a shooting earlier this month during an incident with a suicidal suspect. That man died in a shootout with officers after he shot Detective Brite.

The sheriff's office said last week Detective Brite is awake and alert.
