SUV crashes 100 feet down embankment into South Boulder Creek

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — Eldorado Canyon State Park was closed for about 30 minutes Tuesday morning as crews searched for the driver of a vehicle that was found in South Boulder Creek, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.

The 2012 Honda SUV was found unoccupied about 8:30 a.m. in the area of Rattlesnake Gulch. The sheriff’s office said the vehicle went about 100 feet down a steep embankment into the creek.

The park off Colorado 170 was closed about 9 a.m. but reopened about 9:30 a.m. when the driver was found on Fowler Trail as he was being helped by a good Samaritan.

The 32-year-old man from Superior was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, the sheriff’s office said. His name was not released.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors, the sheriff’s office said.
