7 treated after 3-alarm apartment complex fire in southeast metro area

DENVER -- Firefighters from several jurisdictions responded to a three-alarm apartment complex fire in Arapahoe County on Monday afternoon.

"All the crews that arrived on scene immediately went into search and rescue operations," Denver Fire Department spokeswoman Melissa Taylor said.

Smoke and fire were visible from all three floors of the building at the Reserve at Hunter's Run at 7777 E. Yale Ave. after the fire broke out about 4 p.m.

One Cunningham Fire Protection District firefighter was sent to the hospital for treatment for minor smoke inhalation. He was released Monday night.

Two civilians received treatment for smoke inhalation. Four Arapahoe County sheriff's deputies also suffered mild problems from smoke inhalation.

No victims were found inside the building. Several animals were saved.

Denver Fire, South Metro Fire and Aurora Fire assisted Cunningham Fire on the blaze. There were about 75 firefighters and 18 rigs on the scene.

The American Red Cross said 24 units were evacuated, and it provided temporary lodging, food, water and comfort items.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
