16-year-old girl killed, suspect on the run after Thornton house party shooting

THORNTON, Colo. -- Officers found a 16-year-old girl shot in the torso on the 13000 block of Monaco Way early Saturday morning.

The Thornton Police Department responded to reports of shots fired at approximately 1:40 a.m. Saturday. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses said there was a disturbance at a house party in the area and the suspect fired his weapon as he was leaving the house, hitting the girl.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, skinny, in his late teens or early 20s. The man is also described as 5-foot-6 with a gold hoop ring in his nostril, eyeglasses and dark hair.

He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt. The suspect is possibly associated with a red sedan.

"There had to be at least 30 people running [away from the house]," a neighbor said. "I heard at least 15 to 20 gunshots. You see people just running and screaming."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Thornton police tip line at 720-977-5069.
