DENVER -- The Denver City Council gave its initial approval to spend $4.1 million to buy an industrial warehouse and turn it into an overflow shelter for the homeless.
It sits just south of Sports Authority Field at Mile High in the Sun Valley District.
The place is big enough to provide shelter for about 325 men when other facilities are full.
"We can look at building this shelter out in a more modern way, a way that really considers a dignified shelter operation," Denver spokeswoman Julie Smith said.
The city said it's in the early stages of planning just how the facility will operate.
People who stay there will be bused from other centers. No walk-ups will be allowed.
