French Gulch Fire near Breckenridge nearly contained

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. — A fire that broke out Monday was 80 percent contained, the Breckenridge Police Department said.

Members of the Red White and Blue Fire Protection District responded to the fire one mile east of the Wellington neighborhood.

A firefighting helicopter worked with crews to contain the blaze.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said there was heavy smoke because of the fire, but no structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered.

French Gulch Road at eastbound Country Boy Mine was closed but reopened later Monday.
