BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. -- Firefighters worked to put out a fire that started at an abandoned sugar mill on Sunday night, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said.
Crews from the Longmont Fire Department, Mountain View Fire Rescue and Longmont Hazardous Materials Team responded to the fire, which started about 6:30 p.m. at 11939 Sugar Mill Road, in a county island within the city of Longmont.
Fire crews said they found heavy, thick smoke coming from the second floor of south side of the main building. Firefighters fought the fire from the outside because of the poor conditions of the building. A small section of the building near the fire collapsed.
Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.
The cause and nature of the fire are unknown, the sheriff's office said.
