Bear spotted on University of Colorado campus

BOULDER, Colo. — A bear was caught on camera wandering through the University of Colorado campus on Thursday.

“A bear was spotted this morning near Varsity Lake in the northwest part of campus,” university officials said.

That’s near Broadway and University Avenue. The university tweeted a photo of the bear.

A photojournalist for the Boulder Daily Camera captured video of the bear walking through a grassy area.

University officials said if the bear is seen on campus to call 911.

“Stand still, stay calm and let the bear identify you and leave,” the university said if anyone encounters a bear. “Talk in a normal tone of voice. Be sure the bear has an escape route. If you see cubs, their mother is usually close by. Leave the area immediately.”
