Deadly police shooting in Phoenix broadcast live on TV, online

PHOENIX — At least one television station was broadcasting live and streaming on Facebook Live when police forced a car off the road and fired multiple shots through the windshield on Tuesday. The suspect was killed in the shooting, police later confirmed.

Police were chasing a bank robbery suspect, FOX 10 reported.

“Once again, folks this is live, so, a reminder, some of the images here may not be suitable for all audiences. This is a live stream right here, anything could possibly happen,” a FOX 10 broadcaster said at the start of the 50-minute live-stream. “You’re watching this all unfold live right now.”

Two broadcasters were talking about a popular Mexican restaurant in the area when law enforcement officers used several vehicles to box in the suspect’s SUV and forced it off the road.

“Nice PIT maneuver. Look at that,” one of the men said.

The broadcast continues as the driver of a gray vehicle jumps out and fires at least three shots through the driver’s side of the SUV’s windshield.

“Oh, oh wow,” one of the broadcasters said before the station cut the view from the helicopter.

A reporter at another Phoenix TV station, Lina de Flores, tweeted about the shocking sight.

The station’s Facebook live feed was viewed more than 180,000 times within about an hour.

Police from Phoenix and Avondale were involved in the chase.
