Reports: Broncos release several players; final cuts to come Saturday

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos released a number of players Friday, including running back Juwan Thompson, according to the Denver Post.

Thompson played for the Broncos the past two seasons. He was competing for a spot in the team’s running back rotation.

ProFootballTalk.com reported the team also cut defensive tackle Henry Melton less than two weeks after he was signed. He went to the Pro Bowl while playing for Chicago in 2012, but he has struggled since tearing an ACL during the 2013 season.

The Post reported several other cuts and sited NFL sources. Those players included:

  • LB Eddie Yarbrough
  • LB Dwayne Norman
  • WR Kalif Raymon
  • WR Mose Frazier
  • DL Kyle Peko
  • DL Lars Koht
  • OL Robert Myers
  • OL Lars Hanson
  • CB Taurean Nixon
  • CB John Tidwell

The Broncos have to cut their roster to 53 players by Saturday afternoon.

They open the season against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
